Pitru Paksha Puja
Svamiji has explained how the Full Moon marks the start of Pitri - or Pitru - Paksha - the fortnight of the ancestors. It is during thus period that people remember and pay homage to their ancestors, in accordance with the Vedic Sanatan Dharma. Offerings, prayers and Puja continue throughout this time, which is especially poignant. Pitri Paksha - sometimes referred as Shraad - begins with the Full Moon in the lunar month of Bhadrapada and ends with the New Moon. Seven generations are honoured. This is a wonderful opportunity to contemplate the Teachings and to participate in the ongoing Puja, reflect upon one’s Svadharma and look forward through self empowerment and taking new steps to implement and integrate more awareness.
