Lord Krishna & Kaliya Serpent Murti
This murti has special spiritual significance. It depicts the story of Lord Krishna dancing on the Serpent Kaliya in the Yamuna River. Kaliya was poisonous naga (snake) that lived in the Yamuna River, polluting it such that other beings could not venture into the area. When Krishna learned of this, he went into the river, splashing to gain Kaliya’s attention. Kaliya wrapped his body around Krishna; yet, Krishna increased his size so much Kaliya had to release Him. Then, Krishna began to dance on Kaliya’s head, causing the naga to vomit blood. Krishna's action may have appeared harsh; yet it was Divine Action designed to help Kaliya release his pride and anger. Kaliya’s wives came and prayed to Krishna to let their husband live. Krishna released Kaliya, on the condition that he return to his home, Ramanaka. Kaliya agreed and the Yamuna’s waters returned to pristine condition for all to enjoy. Stands 20" high Base is 8" long x 6" wide Click second photo for full statute image; hover mouse for detail.
