A Call for Support: Cyclone Bulbul Lands in West Bengal, India Saturday, Nov 9, 2019
With hurricane force winds and heavy rain, Cyclone Bulbul made landfall near Sagar Island in West Bengal, India during the evening of November 9. Due to improved evacuation measures, mass casualties have been avoided; however, approximately 60,000 homes have been reported to have been destroyed or damaged and agricultural crops have been devastated in some areas. Support is very much needed to provide shelter and food to those displaced and relief to those whose livelihood has been suspended due to the effects of the storm. Samaj Unnayan Kendra (SUK), an organization providing shelter facilities, has reported that due to the widespread damage in the region that "normal life has been crippled".
Adhyatmik Foundation has a connection with Samaj Unnayan Kendra (SUK) (Society for Harvesting Future) whose activities are largely focus on the Sunderbans region in West Bengal, India. The Sunderbans is an area of mangrove forests and includes 4 UNESCO Heritage sites. For some time, we have been assisting with tree planting and disaster management resilience programs. You may recall that Adhyatmik Foundation provided support following the last cyclone that landed in the region this past May.
Please donate to support the relief efforts of this organization.
