The Ganges River is not only the most important but also the most sacred river in India. “Mother Ganga” is a beloved site and important symbol of India’s age-long culture and spiritual heritage. Unfortunately, with the development of modern India the Ganges river has now become a destination for tourist activities and attractions such as water sports. It is now commonplace to see people engaging in quiet prayer along the banks of the Ganga while rafting boats rush by with shouting tourists. The Foundation is now in support of efforts to stop these activities in pilgrimage site areas so that Mother Ganga can remain protected and honored as the sacred site it is.
